Cancel the environmental impact assessment (Vinca) and summons the Municipal commission for the examination of observations sent by Living coast. The provision signed by the municipal manager scores a point in favor of the Surfers’ Committee Alfonso Mercogliano and the architect Gisella La Palombara onintervention to protect against coastal erosion a Vignola financed with 3.5 million euros from the Region.
In that stretch of coast, where there are houses and tourist activities, events have been planned barriere soffolte which, according to the Committee chaired by Antonio Mercorio, they would have a very strong environmental impact and repercussions on bathing. In recent days the association has presented a appeal to the TAR of breaking latest news through the lawyer Pietro Paolo Ferraraand among the reasons underlying the appeal he also included the failure to examine the observations presented to the Municipality on 17 November and 6 December 2023. Documents which – we read in the Mercogliano manager’s provision – “were not assigned by mistake to the environmental service , ecology and health“.
Hence the cancellation in self-protection and the convening of the municipal environmental assessment commission for April 11th, at 4 pm in remote synchronous mode. The organism is composed of two external components, Evelina D’Alessandro e Lino Ruggieri and by the agency’s forester, Francesco Marsico.
“The cancellation in self-defense was a provision that we expected,” comments Mercorio, “but it does not stop the appeal presented to the TAR of breaking latest news, which is also based on other procedural defects, including the awarding of the contract before the evaluation of environmental impact. As we have already had the opportunity to reiterate on several occasions, a project has been drawn up with a serious and irreversible environmental and territorial impact, destined to definitively change Vignola, compromising all its peculiarities”.
The association has presented some improvement proposals, but according to what emerged during the meeting called in recent days by the mayor Francesco Menna, they seem difficult to accept. The mayor himself claimed that “the houses cannot be moved, but surfing can be done elsewhere”.
The Committee, however, is convinced that they can reconcile different needs and, above all, that they can make improvements to the project drawn up by the engineer Alessandro Mancinelli.
“We have always positioned ourselves in a proactive and collaborative manner”, Mercorio remarks, “we are not against an intervention in front of homes, but we ask particular attention in that area of the bay where surfing is practiced. The two things are not antithetical, there is the possibility of doing something different that can satisfy everyone.”
