The visual artist Aziz El-Masnawi presents his works at Bab El-Kebir Gallery – Kasbah of the Oudayas in Rabat, during the period from May 17 to May 31, 2023. The opening ceremony of the exhibition will take place on May 17 at 6:30 pm, with the support of the Ministry of Youth, Culture and Communication.

A communiqué of the organizing body, a copy of which was received by Al-Alam, stated that the exhibition will present a series of modern paintings by Aziz Al-Masnawi dealing with themes received from Arabic and Moroccan calligraphy according to a special vision using the expressions of Moroccan culture.

According to the same report, Aziz Al-Messawi was born in 1953 in Casablanca, and he is an artist who grew up within the Moroccan art scene, where he specialized in his theatrical debut as an actor and then as a decorator by drawing artistic paintings that decorated the spaces of the plays in which he acted, which allowed him to express his own vision of his heritage and culture. .

According to the same report, Aziz Al-Masnawi considers (an artist of a completely different kind, who practices his art with full awareness of the meaning of creativity as a philosophical and aesthetic concept. It does not deviate from the different patterns and expressions of Moroccan culture, especially “popular culture.” His personal touch is reflected in his paintings through Arabic writing. Which makes us wonder about what this writing is and in what framework can we include it?And how was he able to combine calligraphy and painting to come up with a plastic work that has a cultural reference for an artist who has a personality as a painter and a personality as a Moroccan playwright?) From the book Aesthetic Application and the Problematic of Documentation by plastic critic Khaira Jalil.
