Belluno, the administration imposes its line: the closure of via Vittorio Veneto has been suspended

Only the construction site for the cycle and pedestrian area is underway. Gamba: “We are looking for solutions to secure the bridge without blocking it”

BELLUNO. Counterorder: via Vittorio Veneto will not close on Monday. The works for the safety of the bridge over the Cusighe river, in front of the Veneggia shopping center, were suspended by the new municipal administration, which had announced, as soon as it was elected, its intention to seek a solution that would avoid the closure of the carriageway. The deputy mayor and councilor for traffic, Paolo Gamba, has decided not to suspend the entire construction site: work will start to build the cycle path from the intersection with via degli Agricoltori to the former MiVida nightclub. An intervention that will not cause inconvenience to traffic.

The arrangement of the bridge, on the other hand, has been stopped: Gamba intends to complete the intervention, adding the cycle and pedestrian walkway next to the infrastructure, not envisaged by the project approved and co-financed by the Region.

IMPROPER CLOSURE

Via Vittorio Veneto was supposed to close on Monday, and for two months, for the maintenance of the bridge over the Rio Cusighe. The Municipality, with the previous administration, had prepared the diversion plan, with the vehicles that would pass through Largo Ugo Neri (the internal road of the Veneggia) and via Mameli to cross the section affected by the construction site.

A solution that did not convince Gamba and the new administration, but which had also created some perplexity in the other sides running in the electoral campaign. Everyone had announced their willingness to take a good look at the project before deciding to close the road.

Yesterday the decision: “Monday via Vittorio Veneto will be regularly open,” announced Gamba. “The bridge will be cleaned and the cycle / pedestrian path will be built, as planned, but only this.” Therefore, the intervention on the bridge structure has been suspended.

HISTORY

The Municipality had won a tender promoted by the Region to do the work on the bridge. The project is worth 600 thousand euros, Venice provides 270 thousand and Palazzo Rosso co-finances with 330 thousand. The project provides for the safety of the bridge and the construction of a cycle / pedestrian path. Not the construction of the walkway next to the bridge, because otherwise the costs would have risen and the Municipality would not have had access to the tender, it was explained then. The intention was to build the catwalk at a later time, once the necessary funding was found.

FINAL INTERVENTION

Gamba’s idea, on the other hand, is to make a definitive intervention: safety measures and a walkway, all in a single construction site. “As soon as the public works manager returns, we will go to the Region”, announces the deputy mayor, “both to ask for an extension to the funding and to see if there is the possibility of having a contribution for the walkway, which is not included in the project approved. We want to do everything together ». So, if you really can’t do otherwise, the bridge will be closed only once.

But Gamba also points out about this: “We are looking for an engineering solution that allows the work to be done with the road open”. A bit like what happened for the extraordinary maintenance of the Alpini bridge. Even then Gamba inherited a project that provided for the closure of the road, he worked to change it and the bridge always remained open, except during the asphalting.

“The company has won the contract and it is right that it starts the work”, concludes the deputy mayor. “But in this phase only the cycle and pedestrian path will be carried out and the cleaning of the bridge will be done. Works for around 200-250 thousand euros “.
