The entire Petro Government will be in spiritual retreats in Paipa this weekend

This weekend, Paipa, Boyacá, will host a ‘spiritual retreat’ of the Government, with President Gustavo Petro and his entire cabinet. The purpose is to analyze the 2025 budget and also address the massive marches on April 21.

The work days, scheduled for April 27 and 28, will also include reflection on the internal divisions that have emerged after the citizen protests.

This meeting, which was initially focused on the State’s finances for the next fiscal cycle, has taken a new direction due to the importance of analyzing the demonstrations that brought together nearly five hundred thousand Colombians nationwide.

The Minister of the Interior, Luis Fernando Velasco, has emphasized the need for this space for discussion, anticipating that the meeting will provide an opportunity to reflect politically and socially on recent events. The Paipa mayor’s office has implemented security measures, including restrictions on the carrying of weapons and the declaration of dry law in areas near the event.

In contrast to the initially proposed agenda, the protests and their political impact have gained prominence in the government discussion. However, sources close to the government assure that the main issue will continue to be the 2025 budget, along with a critical evaluation of the execution of current policies of the Executive.

In fact, concern about the effectiveness of the implementation of government programs and the low execution recorded by the Comptroller’s Office have been identified as priority issues on the work agenda.

This retreat in Boyacá comes at a crucial time for the future of the reforms proposed by the government in Congress, which face significant resistance. The government’s response to the marches and its ability to advance its political and economic agenda will be decisive in the coming weeks. This meeting is not only an opportunity to align the government team internally, but also to send a message of unity and determination in the face of current challenges.
