Borrell: “The only way to prevent bombs from being dropped is to not have them.”

by admin

The high representative for Foreign Policy of the European Union, Josep Borrell, pointed out this Thursday, in response to the United States warning to Israel, that “the only way to prevent bombs from being dropped is if they do not have them.”

Borrell was referring in this way to North American President Joe Biden’s threat that the United States will stop supplying offensive weapons to Israel if its Prime Minister, Benjamin Netanyahu, orders to invade the city of Rafah, in the south of the Gaza Strip.

However, the high representative of the EU urged to know in detail the position of the United States on the matter.

Borrell made these considerations in statements to the press on the occasion of his participation in an event in Madrid for Europe Day together with the Spanish Minister of Foreign Affairs, José Manuel Albares.

Albares was also asked by journalists if he interprets Biden’s warning as another step of international pressure on Israel, to which he responded that he cannot speak on behalf of other governments.

But he did reiterate the position of the Government of Spain, which – he recalled – involves rejecting this military operation in Rafah because there are too many civilian lives at risk.

“We must stop this humanitarian catastrophe,” he stressed before assuring that this will be an issue that he will discuss this Friday in Washington with the United States Secretary of State, Antony Blinken.
