US President Joe Biden jokingly took a swipe at Donald Trump, his opponent in the presidential elections in November, in a speech on Saturday.
Biden was a guest at the Gridiron Club Dinner, an annual dinner for politicians and the press. Part of the tradition is a so-called ‘roast’, in which speakers put everything and everyone through the wringer. “The big news this week is that two candidates have secured their party’s nominations for the presidential election,” Biden joked. “One candidate is too old and mentally unfit to become president. The other is me.”
Biden also grilled Republican politicians who would “rather fail in their efforts to impeach me than succeed in anything else” — a reference to the ongoing impeachment investigations into the current president, which continue to go nowhere.
“They want a secure border, but they are blocking the strongest law ever on that,” Biden added. “They take credit for one of the largest infrastructure bills ever, but they voted against it. And then I’m the one who’s confused?
