The British bomb weighs 250 kilograms. It was found during construction work at Heinricistraße 30. The entire area around the explosive device is cleared within a radius of 300 meters.
Evacuation started
Currently, the evacuation of 2,500 people from nearby apartments has begun. Since many older and sick people are also affected, it will take hours to clear the buildings. For everyone who has no other option for accommodation, emergency accommodation will be set up in the RWTH Aachen University Mensa Academica. Only then can the experts from the explosive ordnance disposal service get to work.
Area cordoned off
The area around where the bomb was found has been cordoned off. Motorists are asked to avoid it if possible. The city of Aachen asks residents who have questions about the evacuation to find out about the current status on the website “aachen.de” or on Facebook. You also have the option of getting information from the city’s call center on 0241-510051.
