Ángel Barajas and Jossimar Calvo are one step closer to the Paris 2024 Olympic Games.

The Colombian delegation at the first stop of the Artistic Gymnastics World Cup in Cairo (Egypt) secured two bronze medals. Ángel Barajas and Jossimar Calvo, both natives of Norte de Santander, achieved an outstanding participation in the international event.

The young Ángel Barajas, 17 years old, who was established as the best youth athlete in the 2023 Athlete of the Year awards, achieved a bronze medal in the fixed bar event. His outstanding performance earned him a total score of 14,400, with a difficulty grade of 6,600 and execution of 7,800.

Barajas secured the bronze medal, placing behind Taiwanese Hung Tang (14,500) and Britain’s Joe Fraser (14,430) in the fixed bar event. Additionally, he advanced to the parallel bars final, where he finished in eighth place with a total of 10,570 points.

On the other hand, Jossimar Calvo, 32 years old and four-time Pan American champion, also secured third place in this competition with a score of 15.100. On the podium, he shared honors with Ukrainians Illia Kovtun, winner of the event with 15,600 points, and Oleeg Verniaiev.

Both athletes, trained by Jairo Ruiz, continue to accumulate points on their way to qualifying for the Paris 2024 Olympic Games. Their next challenge will be in Cottbus, Germany, where they will participate in the second stop of the World Cup.
