Children away from Canale: the elementary school closes

by admin

A multi-class was proposed for the seven second and third pupils. Families enrolled them in Falcade and Vallada

CANALE D’AGORDO. In September the primary school of Canale d’Agordo will not open. The scenario that had been feared for three years now has materialized in the last few days when the parents of the seven pupils who should have formed the second-third grade pluriclasse have chosen to enroll their children in the nearby villages of Falcade and Vallada.

And so, after the closure of the primary in San Tomaso, which took place about ten years ago, the Valle del Biois loses another educational institution. But not for lack of children, but because the parents preferred to enroll them elsewhere.

The primary school in Canale, which in 2017 was moved to the middle school building in via Rividella, will however remain active for three years. If there is a sufficient number of enrollments for the 2022-23 school year, the school will reopen.

“We are dismayed,” says the municipal councilor for education, Marilisa Luchetta, “for the impossibility of defending the existence of a school that was valid and that would have over 30 potential students”.

It is Luchetta herself who explains how things went that led to the closure of the complex for the 2021-22 school year. «In the previous school year», he says, «there were seventeen pupils who formed a pluriclasse first – second – fifth. The pupils of the fifth have left and only the seven of the future second and third are left, since the ten or so children who should have gone to first have been enrolled in schools in neighboring countries “.

The second-third multi-class consisting of seven pupils had been granted by the provincial school office, but the parents – when they learned of the small number of pupils who would populate the school – made different choices.

“We can’t blame the parents at all,” Luchetta says, “they don’t have any fault. Also recently as an administration we met the head teacher. Unfortunately, the internal problems of the school that have existed for some years have not been resolved and these are the consequences ».

The words of Marilisa Luchetta bring back to spring-summer 2018 when a group of parents from Canale d’Agordo at the end of May sent a letter to the managers of the regional school office and the inclusive institute of Cencenighe and to the president of the council of the comprehensive institute himself threatening to transfer his children to Vallada and Falcade. Then he followed up on his resolutions.

The elementary of Canale thus lost nineteen pupils in one fell swoop and was left with sixteen. «At the basis of our decision», the parents said at the time, «there is the fact that our children have manifested at home a generalized discomfort perceived within the school structure». Their report had been formalized, they added, “to ask the institutions to verify the complaints, in order to identify any causes and possible solutions to a situation that is inevitably fueling an evident mistrust on our part in the school or, in any case, in some of its operators. “.

A distrust that, as demonstrated by the closing of the school, it did not stop at all.
