Children’s shelter becomes the cornerstone of the Wish Magician Foundation

Bottrop The Bottrop Child Protection Association is looking forward to its new home. The Wunschzauberer eV is looking for supporters for the social community project.

A mid-six-figure sum has already flowed into the house, which is currently being completely renovated and rebuilt for the Child Protection Association with the help of the Wish Magicians Association on Prosperstrasse. However, the building from 1892 always presents project manager Sarah Avakian and the craftsmen with unpleasant surprises. “The costs are extremely high,” says Sarah Avakian. Together with Jessica Helmke from the Wish Magicians Association, she is recruiting additional supporters for the project. The establishment of a new foundation plays an important role.

“It should be a social community project,” emphasizes Jessica Helmke, referring to the house for the child protection association. One that is designed for sustainability. The house, bought by Bottrop real estate entrepreneur Oliver Helmke, who is also chairman of the Wish Magician Association, will be donated as share capital to the newly founded Wish Magician Foundation. “It will belong to the foundation forever. This house creates a sustainable social cycle,” says Jessica Helmke.

In this way, the rental income goes back to social purposes. “The purpose of the foundation corresponds to the purpose of the wish magician association.” In other words, to support social projects or institutions. People can still contribute to this foundation as donors. However, private donations of any amount or material donations from companies are currently welcome for house renovations.

Sarah Avakian gives a few examples of what is still missing so that the Child Protection Association groups can move in in the spring: “We still have no floors, no doors, no sanitary facilities, no lamps.” Ground-level access still has to be completed, at least as well part of the outdoor area. The façade is also still missing, but if necessary it could be tackled after the Child Protection Association moves in. When it comes to the roof, it’s not enough just to replace the tiles – which was the original plan – it has to be completely rebuilt, reports the project manager.

Christine Jatzek, long-time educational director of the Child Protection Association and now a committed volunteer there, describes the association’s current home, which is a few meters down Prosperstrasse, as “very narrow” and is looking forward to being able to work for the various groups (including the international women’s groups). to have more space in the future.

“We now also look after preschool children who have no place in kindergarten and don’t speak a word of German. Our tasks are increasing,” says Jatzek. The future garden will also be valuable for working with the children. “Getting a house like this offers us many new opportunities.”
