China-Europe freight trains “arrive” at China Food and Wine Fair to spark new international consumption patterns
The 110th National Sugar and Wine Fair in Chengdu is receiving a boost from China-Europe freight trains, as they bring a variety of imported goods to the China Food and Wine Fair. With 45 countries and regions, over 6,600 exhibitors, and over 300,000 exhibits, the fair is buzzing with activity.
Located in Hall 12 of the Western China International Expo City Exhibition Area in Qingbaijiang District, Chengdu, the imported goods display and trading area of the Chengdu-Europe National Pavilion is filled with fine wines and delicacies from various countries. Many foreign exhibitors are engaged in negotiations at the booths.
French Pavilion’s representative, Xu Dandan, is focusing on strengthening cooperation with French wineries and connecting with more downstream dealers through the fair. Meanwhile, the Belgian National Pavilion is attracting attention with a chocolate factory booth, showcasing unique products like Smurfs-themed chocolates.
Products from 15 national pavilions, including Belgium, Germany, France, and Portugal, are on display at the fair, covering a wide range of categories such as wine, tea, seasonings, chocolate, meat, and milk powder.
One of the highlights is the arrival of a China-Europe train from Tilburg, the Netherlands, carrying containers loaded with chocolate, toffee, red wine, and other products for the fair. Sichuan Siluli Supply Chain Management Co., Ltd. is utilizing Chengdu International Trains for its import and export trade business to attract international brands and expand market opportunities.
Chris Jan Retzma, founder of Dutch company DMQ, sees the China Food and Wine Fair as a valuable platform to explore the Chinese market and utilize China-Europe freight trains for transportation. Qingbaijiang Customs has set up a green channel to prioritize customs clearance for the fair’s goods, enhancing efficiency and convenience.
At the 2024 Chengdu Import Carnival, the promotion of overseas direct procurement model has garnered interest, leading to contract signings and channel cooperation agreements with various associations for imported goods like chocolate, candy, meat, and wine.
The use of cross-border overseas direct procurement model aims to reduce costs, minimum order thresholds, and financial risks while increasing profit margins for buyers. Chengdu’s international trains have reached 108 overseas cities and 30 domestic cities, facilitating exchanges between merchants and consumers, promoting cross-regional cooperation, and expanding market opportunities.
The China Food and Wine Fair, with the support of Chengdu International Trains, is bridging connections between merchants and consumers globally, playing a significant role in promoting international consumption patterns.
