Forest Fires Wreak Havoc in Guizhou Province, China
Tragedy struck in Huashui Village, Huaga Township, Shuicheng District, Liupanshui City, Guizhou Province when a mountain fire broke out on February 19th. The blaze spread to the Hongqi Community of Longyin Town, Pu’an County, Qianxinan Prefecture, leading to the unfortunate deaths of two firefighters. Despite the efforts of local authorities, the two brave firefighters were unable to survive.
In response to the devastating loss, the Pu’an County Emergency Command Office is currently providing condolences and compensation to the families of the fallen heroes. The fire has been brought under control and the on-site firefighting work has been passed on to the next stage of dealing with residual fires. The related departments are actively and orderly carrying out other necessary tasks in the aftermath.
The incident is part of a growing trend of forest and grassland fires across Guizhou Province since the Spring Festival. The National Forestry Prevention and Control Office dispatched a working group to Guizhou to coordinate and guide firefighting efforts. The working group has emphasized the need for extreme emergency preparedness, tight control of fire sources, and reinforcement of wildfire management to prevent future disasters.
In the wake of the recent fires, public security agencies across Guizhou have taken action against individuals responsible for using fire in violation of regulations. The warm and dry weather in the region, with temperatures significantly higher than normal, has exacerbated the fire risk, making it easier for blazes to spread.
The police have issued reminders to the public to strictly adhere to fire ban regulations and avoid illegal use of fire. Those who violate fire prevention regulations and cause fires will face punishment in accordance with the law, with potential criminal liability if the circumstances are serious enough.
The Guiyang Forest Police Detachment has also listed precautions for preventing forest fires, urging residents to avoid activities that could potentially spark a fire in forest areas.
In response to the escalating forest fire threat, the Guizhou Provincial Forest Prevention Office has launched a Level III emergency response. The office emphasized the need for all departments to work collaboratively to prevent and extinguish forest fires, safeguarding the safety of people’s lives and property.
