Field tents in two Sydney hospitals for patient augmentation
(ANSA) – ROME, AUGUST 26 – Australia has recorded over 1,000 cases of coronavirus in the last 24 hours, the highest daily level since the beginning of the pandemic, while two Sydney hospitals have set up emergency camp tents to cope to the increase in Covid patients.
According to CNN, Sydney – Australia’s largest city, capital of the state of New South Wales – is the epicenter of the new wave of infections. Overall, there were 1,029 cases in New South Wales in the last 24 hours (compared to 919 in the previous 24 hours), of which 969 were in Sydney (838).
And in the Australian metropolis, the rapid increase in infections has forced hospitals in Westmead and Blacktown, west of the city, to use camp tents for patient screening.
The state premier, Gladys Berejiklian, admitted that the system is “under pressure”, but still predicted that hospitals will be able to cope with the current crisis as vaccination rates increase.
Also in the past 24 hours, the state has recorded three deaths from the coronavirus, including a man in his thirties who died at his home. Currently, 116 patients in New South Wales hospitals are in intensive care: the majority of them – 102 – are not vaccinated. (HANDLE).
