Covid: deaths in RSA San Giuseppe, case closed

Three nuns had been investigated. There had been nine deaths

(ANSA) – TURIN, JUN 09 – The investigating judge Giovanna De Maria has ordered the filing, in Turin, of the investigation into the Covid cases which between February and April 2020 occurred in the San Giuseppe di Grugliasco retirement home (Turin). In the proceedings, three nuns of the Daughters of Charity congregation of San Vincenzo de ‘Paoli were investigated for the crime of culpable epidemic. The prosecutor Vincenzo Pacileo had requested the dismissal of the case, according to whom, also in light of the scarce scientific knowledge of the moment, of the indications coming from the health authorities and the shortage of protective devices, the three religious (assisted by Riccardo Mazzuchetti) cannot be held responsible: the judge fully accepted his “precise and articulated arguments”.

Covid affected 25 elderly guests of the facility (nine of whom died), 12 social health workers, two administrative employees and 3 nuns. None of the 9 injured parties who filed a complaint opposed the request for dismissal. (HANDLE).
