The criminal case against Donald Trump over the payment of hush money to porn actress Stormy Daniels, which was due to start on March 25, has been postponed. A judge in Manhattan decided this on Friday.

“The trial on this case will be postponed for 30 days from the date of March 14 when the Manhattan District Attorney’s Office gave the green light to the delay as requested by Trump’s lawyers,” Judge Juan Merchan said.

Trump is being prosecuted for 34 criminal counts related to accounting tampering. For example, the processing of payments to the porn actress is said to have been tampered with, to prevent her from disclosing details about the affair between the two. The payments were made in the run-up to the 2016 presidential election, which Trump won.

Court documents show that Trump’s team had asked for a 90-day delay. The defense had received 73,000 pages of potentially relevant material by early March.

The Manhattan prosecutor said he had no objection to giving Trump an extra thirty days at most to study judicial documents. This case is likely to be the first of four criminal cases against Trump to be brought to trial.
