The historical villa in which the sculptor Vojtech Löffler lived was acquired by the Old Town of Košice as a gift in the early 1990s. It is located in the wider city center, but it has been empty for half a year. The old city pretends to be looking for its use.
The community of artists and creatives from the Stroj association showed interest in the premises. Although the management of the Old Town is negotiating with them, they also proposed to sell the villa. The MPs do not agree with this, they are said to have been informed in advance about the intention to sell the villa.
The future of the building is unclear – all the more so because the town hall has been unable to deal with the building in poor technical condition for years. Since she acquired it, no comprehensive reconstruction has taken place.
Artists want to bring the villa back to life
“Our ambition is to create a space for the cultivation of talent and young people. It would be related to the original legacy of Vojtech Löffler,” says Zuzana Révészová from the Stroj civic association, which expressed interest in the premises. The contract with the previous tenant, the Hungarian art community Rovás, expired last October.
