The first time as mayor was in 2007, arrived after a mess, as councilor first and deputy mayor later. M.Arco Curto, 56, is coming to the end of his experience at the helm of the Municipality of Montegrosso, in a mixture of nostalgia and the desire to undertake new projects. You don’t apply again. And there are currently no aspiring mayors.
Mayor, he is at the end of a long journey. Differences between the mandates?
«The first and the third are similar from a political-administrative point of view. In the second, due to the halving of the councilors, I encountered several difficulties in managing the municipal machine ».
What did you sow and then reap?
«Sowed a lot of good will, seriousness and work, on the part of all my majorities. Today we are receiving recognition, at the provincial level, of a municipality that is healthy from a financial point of view and is attractive for the settlements ».
What do you feel wearing the tricolor headband?
«I am thinking of the sacrifice of those who have allowed us to have independence. Every year, commemorating the fallen of all wars, I remember the three colors of the flag: the green of our countryside, the white of the snow of our mountains and the red of the blood shed by our soldiers ».
The most important project among those carried out?
«During the first term the municipal sports field, a facility used by our children for almost fifteen years. In the second, the nursery, the only public in Valtiglione. In the third, the new Carabinieri barracks, which guarantees the garrison of the territory ».
How was the fiscal policy?
“Since 2017 there have been no more tax increases and the additional personal income tax is among the lowest of the average Asti municipalities. Furthermore, Montegrosso is among the municipalities with the lowest indebtedness, despite having made many investments over the years which however derive from researched and acquired capital account grants ».
Environmental policies?
«The place where we live is the patrimony of humanity; Montegrosso, for a small portion on the border with Mombercelli, is part of the Unesco core zone. It means that we have been careful not to ruin what surrounds us and to enhance it ».
The social?
«It is guaranteed by Cisa Asti Sud, with which we work constantly. During the pandemic we lived through difficult days, when families in isolation were without food or drugs or when we started the vaccination campaign. Montegrosso was one of the 17 vaccination centers in the province. We have administered 16 thousand doses ».
An immense sorrow?
«A wound: in 2010 a councilor left us. He was the wise man I confronted myself with in the administrative life, I learned a lot from him ».
A kind gesture on the part of your fellow citizens?
«What two grandparents in the vaccination center told me last year:“ Thank you mayor for letting us meet here, we haven’t seen each other for thirteen months and this fills our hearts with joy ”».
Dreams fulfilled?
“As a sportsman, to see 185 boys between 4 and 16 years doing activities in the football fields of Montegrosso”. –
