The resources to achieve are growing new cycle paths and cycle/pedestrian paths intended for local authorities in Emilia-Romagna, but also to encourage gentle mobility between home-school-work.

The Regional Council has decided to assign a further 8 million of Eurofrom 2021/2027 ERDF funds, to finance others 9 projects proposed by Metropolitan city of Bologna, Provinces, Municipalities and Unions.

The tender, concluded in September and with an initial value of 17 million euros, thus reaches the overall threshold figure of around 25 million, allowing the ranking to slide until the total is financed 25 projects.

The measure is part of a broader policy to support the creation of cycle paths in the region which also includes other financing instruments, again within the Fers framework.

Since 2019 they have been financed in total by the Region approximately An additional 670 km of cycle paths with contributions to the Municipalities. Of these 186 km belonging to the network of national cycle routes. The total value of these projects is approximately 155 million eurosdivided into state, regional and local co-financing.

The funded projects

The additional projects financed now concern the Municipalities of: Saint Lazarus (Bo) for the mending of sections of cycle and pedestrian paths along Via Fondè-Remigia; Cesenatico (Fc), with the cycle path along the Rigossa stream; Forlì (FC), with the creation of the cycle path from via Decio Raggi to Carpena; Bagnolo in Piano (Re), with redevelopment and safety works between via Ariosto and the municipal border; Concordia (Mo) with the construction of the Concordia Sulla Secchia – Novi Di Modena section of the regional cycle route in memory of the 2012 earthquake. Furthermore, the municipalities of: Medesano (PR)with the environmental and landscape enhancement of the area and the cycle/pedestrian path connecting Felegara and Ramiola; Riccione (Rn)with the creation of a cycle path along Viale Torino on the route of the Ciclovia Adriatica; Novi di Modena (Mo) for the construction of the cycle-pedestrian connection between the hamlets of S. Antonio in Mercadello and Rovereto (2nd part) and finally Correggio (King), with the new cycle-pedestrian path connecting Correggio and Canolo.

Of the 25 projects that will come financed, 5 I am in the province of Bologna (contribution of 5 million and 983 thousand euros out of a total expenditure of 9 million and 450 thousand euros), 2 in that of Forlì-Cesena (contribution of over 2 million 411 thousand euros out of an admitted expenditure of 3 million 709 thousand euros), 2 in the province of Ferrara (contributions of 2 million and 511 thousand euros on an admitted expenditure of 3 million, 977 thousand euros), 3 in the province of Modena (2 million and 421 thousand euros contribution on an expense of 3 million and 670 thousand euros); 4 in the province of Piacenza (contributions of 4 million 171 thousand euros on an expenditure of 6 million 480 thousand euros), 3 in the province of Parma (contribution of 3 million 178 thousand euros on an expense of 4 million 986 thousand euros); 4 in the province of Reggio Emilia (2 million 178 thousand euros contribution on an expense of 3 million 489 thousand euros) and finally 2 projects in the province of Rimini (2 million and 24 thousand euros of regional contribution on an eligible expenditure of 3 million and 97 thousand euros).

The measure is in line with the National Strategy for Adaptation to Climate Change and its objectives which include the increase in cycle paths to reduce emissions by 55% by 2030. It also reflects the provisions of the EU Regulation for air quality .

The contribution

The candidate projects are financed in the form of capital co-financing. The contribution percentage is equal to 60% of the eligible investment, with a 10% bonus if they are included in cycling circuits of national or international importance, nominated by Municipalities that have signed agreements for air quality or by Unions of Municipalities or by Municipalities deriving from a process of union.

Projects eligible for funding must be completed by December 31, 2025.
