“This film without the commitment of the actors would have been unimaginable,” says Daniele Vicari, director of Day and night. “By the time we were all stuck in the house they had to do the work of the whole crew.” The video messages between the two protagonists, “who in the film court each other at a distance, sending suggestive images”, were actually made by the two actors before working on the set, during the lockdown, and then “they ended up in the editing”.
The film is set in Italy during a bacteriological terrorist attack. The authorities require the population to remain locked in the house. This situation, similar to that actually experienced during the pandemic, poses particular challenges for couples who have remained separated.
