Now they are all on the attack. As in football the ball is flying over. Agcom is ready to see clearly on the Dazn case and consumers are all on a war footing. In short, the football championship has really started amidst controversy. In the crosshairs ends Dazn but also the network through which the operator-publisher distributes Italian football. In short, the climate is hotter than ever but the CEO of Tim Luigi Gubitosi puts a point, “the network has worked magnificently” and “I don’t expect any problems next weekend” he explained arriving at the Rimini Meeting. “As far as Tim is concerned, everything worked and Dazn explained yesterday that in the first match (of the Serie A championship, ed) there had been some disservice that depended on a problem of the Content Delivery Network that they have now solved, so not I expect problems next weekend ». Meanwhile, the Agcom Board, in today’s meeting, dealt with the issue of broadcasting the Serie A football championship matches on the DAZN platform.
As will be recalled, on 24 June the Authority had adopted an act of guidance recalling all operators to the need to avoid, on the occasion of the broadcasting of football matches, an overload of the network, such as to block or in any case slow down the traffic of data by the generality of users, also compromising the performance of essential services.
Following that policy act, DAZN has created a series of infrastructures which to date have contributed to avoiding network congestion. With this, however, the platform has accepted the Authority’s guidance and supervision. The Authority is continuing to constantly monitor the entire affair, which can represent an important driving force for the digitization of the entire country. To date, two technical meetings have been held with DAZN and all the operators, which will be followed by another on the 30th, after the second day of the championship. The issues of the quality of the service offered to subscribers, the increase in information and the protection of individual consumers, and the equal opportunity of all operators to be able to distribute streaming remain open and will be subject to constant attention by the Authority. of the matches under the same conditions of quality and speed.
Agcom concludes that it will reserve the right to intervene with appropriate measures, including urgent ones, where necessary.
