Ddl Zan, the scenario in the Senate for the vote: the majority does not have the numbers to approve the law against homophobia

by admin

The Zan bill against homophobia received the first green light in the Chamber last November 4, during the Conte II government. Thanks to the support of the Giallorossi, a majority made up of M5s, Pd, Italia Viva and Leu. The final vote in the Chamber took place by secret ballot, requested by the Brothers of Italy: 265 in favor, 193 against and one abstention.

Forza Italia, Fratelli d’Italia and Lega voted against, but 5 blue deputies – in dissent from the group – said yes to the law while shortly before the Lega and Brothers of Italy deputies put in place a protest in the Chamber, al cry for “freedom, freedom” and wearing some gags on his face against what they have defined as “a law that gags freedom of thought”. A strong opposition that at Montecitorio did not block the Zan Bill, but it may not be so in the Senate.

The numbers in the Senate
The votes in favor of the text of the Zan bill without changes amount to a range between 135 and 145 yes. Alone, without the Renzians, insufficient to “lock up” the text. The votes in support of the law are from the 75 M5s senators, 38 from the Democratic Party, at least 6 from the Autonomies, the 6 senators from Leu, and at least a dozen are calculated from the Mixed group.

The votes against, if no changes are made to the text, are composed as follows: 51 senators from Forza Italia (but some Azzurri could vote in favor as already happened in the Chamber), 20 FdI, 64 Lega, 7 Idea, to which they should be added other votes from Mixed, for a total ranging from a minimum of 145 votes against up to even 155-158 no.

Determinants, both for the eventual final approval of the Zan bill and for its rejection, the votes of the 17 senators of Italia Viva. Renzi’s party in the House voted in favor, but the Senate asks for changes to the text.
