The ranchers of the municipality of Becerril, in Cesar, called on local authorities because cattle have died on several farms due to lack of water as a result of the El Niño phenomenon.
In a recent case, a rancher on a farm in a rural area found a dead cow, which was evidenced in photographs, which show how the property is completely dry.
It was also known that this situation is occurring in other municipalities, as well as in corn crops in Pelaya and rice in the north of Valledupar.
In this sense, the Secretary of Agriculture of Cesar, José Francisco Zequeda Daza, indicated that upon learning of the cases they have coordinated with the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development to mitigate the effects of the El Niño phenomenon.
“Since last year, the Ministry of Agriculture has been attacking the problem of drought that occurs throughout the year, but the El Niño phenomenon is a factor that is exacerbating it, so we were already preparing beforehand. The farmers have been given agricultural kits for around 5 million pesos and we want the coverage to be broader, but this depends on the national government,” said the official.
