Defeat of Álvaro Uribe in case with Daniel Coronell

Uribe-Coronell Case

Uribe is investigated for some comments he made on social networks in 2017 when he said: “Then Daniel Coronel must submit to the JEP (Special Jurisdiction for Peace, created by the agreement that the Government and the FARC signed in 2016 to end the armed conflict) to confess his drug trafficking crime.”

The former president and the journalist They have faced each other on several occasions in recent years. as a result of a process that has dragged on over time, since it is not the first time that the Prosecutor’s Office summons Uribe to transfer the indictment against him. In April 2023 he summoned him but the former president’s defense filed a request for estoppel.

Before, on March 30, Uribe charged again against Coronell and said that he has no evidence that he was a drug trafficker, but that he “was sponsored by drug trafficking.”

“He is also a dark character in the way he infiltrates justice. He does political, biased journalism, which presents it as investigative,” said the former president.

This is not the only case that Uribe faces in the Colombian Justice.

The one that has advanced the most began in 2012 when the Supreme Court of Justice, for a complaint by the former president against Senator Iván Cepeda decided did not open an investigation against the left-wing congressman and, instead, initiated a process against the former president for witness manipulation.

Later, in mid-2018, the Court called Uribe to be investigated for procedural fraud and bribery, since the investigations of that high court indicated that the former presidentthrough third parties such as lawyer Diego Cadena, apparently tried to manipulate the versions of former paramilitaries so that they would testify against Cepeda.
