Double strike by Olischefski and Mebus
At the beginning of the second period, the Ingolstadt team dominated and created two great opportunities, but Henrik Haukeland and the post prevented the score from making it 3-0. Instead, DEG came back into the game somewhat surprisingly with a double blow. First, Kohen Olischefski scored on an assist from Alexander Blank to make it 1-2 from Düsseldorf’s perspective (27′). Just 20 seconds later, Oliver Mebus made it 2-2 (27th). This time Sinan Akdag and Philipp Gogulla were the preparers. However, the Panthers immediately struck back. Wojciech Stachowiak gave Ingolstadt the lead again in the 29th minute. A little later, DEG survived being outnumbered and went the rest of the third without conceding another goal.
Kozun secures ERC the extra point
At the beginning of the final third, DEG tried to score another equalizer, but failed again and again due to the strong Michael Garteig in the ERC goal, who also drove Düsseldorf to despair in one-on-one situations. However, there was no real final offensive by DEG. Ingolstadt confidently defended most of the guests’ advances and remained dangerous even on counterattacks. In the final phase it was mainly the home team who scored chance after chance. When the game already seemed lost, Kenny Agostino managed to score the equalizer (59′). Gogulla almost scored the late winning goal, but was denied by Garteig (60′).
Both teams scored well in extra time, but the home team secured the extra point with a goal from Brandon Kozun (63′).
