After thirty years of service, the head of the Serd will go to direct the same service to the Trento health company
FELT. Psychiatry loses another piece. The specialist Alberto Cestaro on November 1st of this year will go to direct the Serd of the Trento healthcare company. What was once a voice, is now confirmed by the management determination of Ulss Dolomiti which includes in the termination of the employment relationship due to voluntary resignation, in addition to the psychiatrist Cestaro, linked to Santa Maria del Prato for thirty years of work, also the palliativist Gianluca Sartore medical director of palliative care since 2017, who will cease service from next October.
What arouses great concern and affects the critical conscience of the Feltre people is the destiny of Psychiatry as a center for diagnosis and treatment, where hospital stays have been suspended since mid-July due to a lack of doctors. The head physician Massimo Semenzin who went to head the psychiatry department of the Pordenone hospital, requesting unpaid leave of absence from Santa Maria del Prato for six months, remained in charge of the service until the last patients were discharged. For the beginning of next year the retirement of Francesco Procaccini has already been announced, Alberto Cestaro for a couple of years, after the retirement of his predecessor Vito Gallio, is coordinator of the SerD of Feltre.
For a population of over eighty thousand inhabitants, those of the Feltre district, the doctors are few. But the solutions would not be lacking if there was the will to invest. Guido Trento, former regional councilor and former member of the health commission of Palazzo Ferro Fini, is convinced of this, who supports the newborn Feltre health committee set up close to the suspension of psychiatric stays in Santa Maria del Prato. “The strong concern is that Psychiatry in Feltre will be closed to centralize a single diagnosis and treatment department in Belluno,” said Trento. “It is obvious that a primary care cannot be canceled without first modifying the health records. But I believe that the willingness to stay on the part of professionals, who have contributed to making the history of a department like that of Feltre, had been there, but only in the face of a serious proposal for the reorganization of the service. As I believe that there is no lack of willingness to come and work here but these must be corroborated by a motivation that must necessarily start from the management ».
Guido Trento concludes his reasoning: «Institutional psychiatry is made up of outpatient clinics that have to connect with hospitalizations in the many cases of people who are ill. We really hope that a head physician will be appointed and that the department will return to full capacity. If this does not happen, I am ready to support a complaint for interruption of public service ».
