IF I SAY. Commando of animal rights activists kidnapped a dog from his kennel. There were at least two people in the private garden of a house in Maieran, on 16 June two years ago. Mara Valentini, 61, a Venetian from Spinea was reported and taken to court for theft in an apartment, while the other was not identified and no one has ever reported her. Victim of the kidnapping was a dark brown Sicilian shepherd with a white spot named Zuma, who evidently knew the two, because he followed them on a leash, without complaining, much less barking, to warn his new owner.

But according to what emerged later, he was fine: he was not mistreated at all, so there was no reason to take him away. Yet for a couple of weeks he was not found and there was a family anxious about him. The investigations were carried out by the carabinieri of Sedico, who analyzed the images of the video surveillance cameras of a neighbor, which portray two individuals and, to frame Valentini, they dedicated themselves to telephone records, discovering that the woman’s phone had hooked the cell of Sedico that day.

Zuma will be found in the “Tra le paampe di Sammy” refuge in Fontanafredda (Pordenone). He had been stripped of his microchip, probably by a makeshift vet, and his name had been changed. When he saw his best friend again, he started wagging his tail, making him party and almost asking him to file a civil action with the lawyer Giorgio Gasperin. Valentini’s only crime is that of theft in an apartment. No mistreatment and identity theft is only for humans.

Before Judge Coniglio, the defendant’s defender was not seen, who was replaced by a Belluense colleague. First hearing of the trial on November 23rd.
