USGS Reports Latest Earthquake Data in the United States

The United States Geological Survey (USGS) has reported on the latest earthquakes in the US, revealing a series of tremors in various states. The most recent earthquake occurred on April 15th at 22:08:41 UTC-05:00, with a magnitude of 3.0 degrees. The epicenter was located 46 km west of Petrolia, California, with a depth of 17.9 km.

Other earthquakes reported by the USGS include a 3.4 magnitude tremor 97 km north-northeast of Cruz Bay, US Virgin Islands, a 2.5 magnitude quake 38 km northwest of Valdez, Alaska, and a 3.8 magnitude quake 99 km north of Cruz Bay, US Virgin Islands. Additionally, a 3.0 magnitude earthquake struck 88 km east-southeast of Ugashik, Alaska, and a 3.2 magnitude quake occurred 58 km east-northeast of Pedro Bay, Alaska.

Furthermore, the USGS highlighted a significant earthquake that occurred on April 5 in the states of New York and New Jersey. With a magnitude of 4.8, this earthquake was the strongest recorded in the region in the past 40 years. USGS scientists are currently studying the causes of this seismic event, including the possibility of a reactivated dormant fault.

According to Sara McBride, a representative of the USGS Earthquake Program, the agency is examining the theory that an old, inactive fault may have been reactivated, leading to the earthquake.
