The Fifth Sentencing Court of San Salvador suspended the trial against the former Minister of Justice and Security, Mauricio Ramírez Landaverde and other former officials accused of diverting more than half a million dollars from prison stores through the creation of the Yo Cambio Association , between 2018 and 2019.

The defendants are charged with the crimes of improper bribery, aggravated falsification of documents, embezzlement and arbitrary acts.
Among the accused there are 13 more people who illegitimately took advantage of the money, among them, employees of the National Administration of Aqueducts and Sewers (ANDA), through overtime payments.
The tax investigation details that some payments reached amounts of $2,000 and $3,000 that were paid from the stores’ funds and by ANDA at the same time.
On repeated occasions, the prosecutor’s office, through the Specialized Corruption Crimes Unit, has mentioned that they have more than 2,000 pieces of evidence, including accounting expertise, witness statements and analysis of document signatures, which demonstrate that the The amount embezzled, through the diversion of funds from prison stores, amounts to approximately half a million dollars.
