This was reported by the National Ombudsman, Carlos Camargo, who reported that before the announcement “international cooperation and members of community councils are delivering humanitarian aid in nine communities, three of them are recipients of displaced population and six are in a situation of displacement, from Sipí, Medio San Juan and Istmina”.

The official reported that “this first delivery, of fifteen tons, includes household goods, food, medicines, among other basic and necessary products.”

As will be recalled, said armed strike had affected more than nine thousand people from 52 communities in municipalities such as Nóvita, Sipí, Istmina, Litoral del San Juan and Medio San Juan, in the South Pacific.

Camargo said “that the ELN announces the temporary suspension of the armed strike in the department of Chocó, reveals the seriousness of the effects it is causing in the civilian population. Peace is built with real gestures of peace, not endangering the integrity and life of people, nor violating their other rights.

The official indicated that through the Chocó regional office of the Defensoría del Puego, it continues to monitor the complex situation that has been affecting the civilian population.

Camargo highlighted international cooperation with the delivery of humanitarian aid for vulnerable populations, which includes supplies, food, medicines, among other basic and necessary products. However, they have not been able to arrive due to territorial disputes between armed groups, such as the ELN and the Clan del Golfo.

In this sense, he explained that “there must be coherence by the ELN and not cause confusion. He is not the actor outside the law, the same one that causes terror in the civilian population, the one in charge of establishing safe passages or humanitarian corridors, although the temporary suspension of the strike that he is advancing is recognized ”.
