Etna “calms down”: the fifth paroxysm has ended

by admin

The National Institute of Geophysics and Volcanology-Etna Observatory of Catania has announced that the fifth paroxysmal event from the South-East crater since last May 19, with a lava fountain, explosions, ash emission and casting has ended.

From 10:30 pm a rapid decrease in the mean amplitude of the volcanic tremor is observed, showing a tendency to further decrease. The centroid of the volcanic tremor sources is located in the South East crater area at an elevation of about 2,600 meters above sea level. Infrasonic activity also shows a marked decrease, especially in the frequency of occurrence. No significant changes are visible on the signals of Gnss stations.
