March 2024 marks the 8th National Myopia Prevention and Control Publicity and Education Month, with efforts underway to promote eye health and reduce the incidence of myopia. Recently, the launching ceremony of Guangxi’s 2024 Myopia Prevention and Control Publicity and Education Month took place at the No. 1 Experimental Primary School in Wuxiang New District, Nanning City. The theme “Teachers and Students’ Health, China’s Health” was emphasized during this event.
To raise awareness and provide practical tips for preventing myopia, the Nanning Primary and Secondary School Health Care Center highlighted several key recommendations for parents and children. These include spending time outdoors, reducing close-range eye strain, maintaining proper posture while reading and writing, ensuring good lighting, prioritizing quality sleep, eating a balanced diet, and regularly monitoring vision health.
Specifically, children are advised to engage in at least 2 hours of outdoor activities daily, follow the “40-10” rule for close-range eye use, maintain correct reading and writing positions, use proper lighting, get sufficient sleep, eat a diverse diet rich in essential nutrients, and undergo regular vision checks.
Furthermore, parents are encouraged to be aware of their children’s hyperopic reserve, which acts as a protective factor against myopia. By understanding and preserving this reserve through healthy eye habits, the risk of myopia development can be mitigated.
Overall, promoting eye care and adopting preventive measures early on can contribute to a brighter and healthier future for children. By following these guidelines, individuals can work towards safeguarding their vision and overall well-being.
