ALPAGO. Twenty-six votes of detachment, two hours of exciting head-to-head up to the results of Farra, the true balance of the elections. Albero Peterle is the new mayor of the Municipality of Alpago, elected with 1,061 votes at the end of an afternoon that began with a growing advantage by Vanessa De Francesch, his former colleague in the outgoing council of Umberto Soccal. De Francesch remained in the lead until Farra’s results arrived, who clearly indicated his preference for Peterle by shifting the outcome of the vote.
In the headquarters
In his headquarters, a tavern in via Matteotti in Farra, from 4 to 6 pm, Peterle suffered surrounded by a very large group of supporters and friends: “In those two hours I lost five years of life”, says the new mayor, 42 years old, civil servant, married and father of two children. “I knew it could happen and it’s true that the head-to-head is exciting, but for those who see it from the outside, not for me,” jokes Peterle. When the result was consolidated with the very short posting of 26 votes, the group decided to move to Pieve, where all the parcels from the other sections would converge in seat 1 and where the proclamation would take place.
The reception in Pieve
In Pieve Peterle he received confirmation of his victory even before entering elementary school, with the chorus of enthusiastic supporters and the carousel that was waiting for him.
The first to congratulate him was Soccal, the outgoing mayor who, from the result of his two dolphins, can positively consider the experience of first mayor of the post-merger. And just the difficult path of the single municipality is the first thought of Mayor Peterle.
The first things to do
«Building the single municipality is a demanding job that has only just begun. Unfortunately, people have detached themselves from the administration in these five years and the first thing we have to do is return to communicate with people, recover a relationship of trust and closeness with the citizens, be clear and constant in this relationship “.
Peterle, who was councilor for the budget with Soccal, already has considerable administrative experience: president of the mountain community at 28 and then deputy mayor of Farra from 2014 to 2016, the years in which the merger was promoted. Since 2014 Peterle has also been president of the Gal, re-elected last year for the third time with a deadline of 2022.
“The presidency of the Gal has given me the opportunity to learn a lot of things is a job that I am very passionate about.”
Now, however, it is a question of organizing the work for the next five years in Alpago: «In the next few hours I will speak with the offices to deepen the organizational model and understand if there is something to be adjusted to make the municipal machinery work at its best. Then you have to take in hand the projects started or sketched in these years, which are many. There are 22 million euros of public works to be carried out in the next few years. I would say that this is already a great deal of work that awaits us. The aspect that we must not forget is that of communication, because perhaps the citizens of Alpago do not know these projects ».
Peterle therefore stands in continuity with the work of his predecessor, to which he himself contributed: «Yes, I feel in continuity, we have done a great job together, even if now it needs to be refined and consolidated». The new mayor, however, also confirms the change of pace compared to the past, because despite not having a party card, Peterle recognizes his belonging to the center-right. “In a town of seven thousand inhabitants this does not matter, the choices are made in the interest of the country regardless, but outside of it, it counts, because you are also identified by belonging and at that point they become political choices”.Peterle also thinks about the territorial distribution of the votes collected: “If it went very well in Farra, it went badly in Pieve and Cornei and this says a lot about the fact that we need to work more on the territorial cohesion of this large and young municipality”.
The proclamation
Not even time to take a breath and it is already time for the proclamation and to wear the sash as mayor of Alpago for the first time. In front of a small group of tellers, it was the outgoing mayor who welcomed him and physically carried out the handover. “I leave you a municipality that is a gem from the point of view of the budget and accounting,” jokes Umberto Soccal, putting the band on his former councilor. “The merger is not complete yet, but I know you will have the ability to complete it.”
“I’m very happy,” says Peterle with the chest band, “but still dazed. I thank all those who have supported me and who have worked in this exciting but also difficult month. The municipality of Alpago has been assembled, now it has to learn to travel to the maximum. We will do whatever it takes to make it grow further. I thank the team, my family and all the citizens of Alpago ».
Finally, the real party with all the friends, the team and supporters gathered at the Bortoluzzi hotel in Farra for a pasta dish and perhaps the first hypotheses of the new council.
The new advice
In addition to the mayor, there are 8 majority municipal councilors designated on the basis of the preferences received: Elisabetta Bortoluzzi (168 preferences); Beatrice Saviane (157); Albino Dazzi (145); Marina Zoppè (124); Roberto Dal Paos (98); Riccardo Sitran (98); Roberto Deon (86); Alessandro De Nardi (67). On the opposition benches, will sit Vanessa De Francesch and the candidate advisor Federico Costa (preferences 189) from the list “Together for the future”, and the other two challengers beaten by Peterle, Massimo Bortoluzzi of “Change and Development” and Attilio Dal Paos of “A come Alpago”.
