Flaming fire ravages well-known Chinese takeaway restaurant Ni Hao in Mechelen (Mechelen)

by admin

A raging fire broke out at the Chinese takeaway restaurant Ni Hao on Brusselsesteenweg on Saturday afternoon. A police officer on his way to work was able to evacuate several people.

The emergency services arrived en masse on the Brusselsesteenweg. Images from bystanders show flames shooting out of the building and accompanied by heavy smoke development.

Police officer Benny Boydens was on his way to work when he noticed the fire. “I saw a huge amount of smoke on the ground floor,” he says. “At first glance it looked like the fuse box was on fire.”

“There were three restaurant employees present. They got out in time, but I had to pull one of them away. He wanted to put out the fire himself. An understandable reaction, but that was impossible. It was a serious fire,” says Boydens.

Boydens also evacuated the two adjacent buildings. “I had to get some people out there,” he says.

The Brusselsesteenweg is currently closed at Plaisanceplein. Some cars parked in front of the restaurant were also damaged.

More later.
