Until 28 November Bologna hosts the fifth edition of Foto / Industria, the biennial dedicated to industrial and work photography organized by the Mast Foundation.

This edition focuses on food, a timeless theme that is particularly relevant today. The works on display reflect many of its possible declinations, leaving the viewer with a series of reflections on the food issue starting from the impact on the territory, sustainability and population growth.

“Food is a fundamental indicator for analyzing and understanding entire civilizations” declares the artistic director Francesco Zanot. “The ways in which food is produced, distributed, sold, purchased and consumed contain some distinctive characteristics of an era or a cultural and social context. Food is language ”.

The eleven exhibitions of Foto / Industria retrace the ways in which photography has described food from the 1920s to today. Among these, we find the reportages by Ando Gilardi together with a selection of his historical iconographic archive. Herbert List takes us to Favignana where in the fifties he documented the slaughter of tuna. Takashi Homma compares the facades of McDonald’s with the traces of blood left by deer hunters in Japan, while Henk Wildschut focuses on the most advanced technologies used by the food industry to increase the volume of production.

The exhibitions are located in the historic buildings of the city, apart from Ando Gilardi who is exhibited at the Mast. All are free.
