Pont Canavese. The body of the man found on Saturday afternoon in the waters of Chiusella, in the area of Ponte Preti, in the territory of the Municipality of Strambinello, almost certainly belongs to Pietro M., 61 years old. Specific comparative exams will be needed to recognize him, he is so disfigured, and the autopsy exam, scheduled for today, Monday, but some clues seem to direct the Carabinieri of the Ivrea Company on that track.
Confirmation is therefore awaited, but if that were the case it would be the tragic epilogue of a disappearance that took place last Wednesday from Casa di Campo, a psychiatric protected community of Pavone, where Pietro M. was hospitalized for a security measure, a Tso, just renewed by the judge, with his brother (and just to protect his privacy we omit the surname), for four years. Also disturbing is the date of his departure from the place where he lived, on July 28, exactly four years after his entry, on July 28, 2017.
From Pavone to Strambinello on foot
The hypothesis of a rash gesture is among the most accredited, and the place that Pietro M. would have identified to put an end to an existence of suffering is sadly known for having been chosen, several times in the past, by other fragile subjects. And fragile, the 61-year-old from Pont really was, even if in his heart he cherished the hope of one day being able to return, one day, to his home, in the area of the sports field of the town, door of the valleys, to his habits, perhaps taking with him the younger brother who now, at the Casa di Campo, wonders, in the rare moments of lucidity, why Pietro has abandoned him. But from the residence for people with psychiatric problems, the man could not have left, given the renewal of the security measure just arrived.
The escape arrived on Wednesday morning around 6.30, when the man left the shower open and evaded the security cameras of the structure, a decision made long ago, so much so that everything points to a planned removal. After leaving the residence, kilometers on foot from Pavone to Strambinello, along the Pedemontana, and then that bridge over the stream that rises in the heart of the mountain, but from another valley, not the one where he had lived, strongly evocative, in the good and bad.
Voluntary removal
There are so many questions that you don’t know if they will ever find an answer. Is it possible that no one has crossed paths with the 61-year-old along that road? It was early, of course, but the Pedemontana, with the motorway tollbooth almost at the gates of Ivrea, is already busy in the very early hours of the day. Since this is a voluntary removal, not all those procedures have been activated such as the organization of a large-scale search with the direct intervention of the firefighters and civil protection. There was, moreover, the report by the residential structure to the carabinieri of Banchette, and those of Pont, already on Wednesday, carried out inspections around the house of the M. brothers, in case the 61-year-old had ever arrived there, even if he could not enter because his relatives had been forced to change the locks after the thieves’ raid.
He assisted his parents until his death
Until the death, a few months later, 14 years ago, of his parents, suffering from serious pathologies, and whom he personally took care of, Pietro M. had shown no signs of mental imbalance. He had worked at the former Ceresa di Sparone, proving to be a good worker, then, a problem with a colleague, the loss of his job, and in the meantime the health conditions of father and mother increasingly precarious and the need to be followed in everything, the younger brother who, after his brilliant scholastic results, had had an involution, the pain resulting from the loss of loved ones, the darkness. Convinced to interface with ASL psychiatry, Pietro M. had become the protagonist of an unpleasant episode, for which he had been reported. Once the Tso was triggered, his brother had been hospitalized in the hospital of Ivrea, in Ciriè, then both ended up in Villa Turina, in San Carlo, and from there, as mentioned at the Casa di Campo di Pavone. Until the lockdown, some close relatives went to visit them every Monday, until the last time, this year, in May, two days after Pietro’s birthday. And also on this occasion, the desire, confessed to family members, to see Pont again, to go home, to try to start again, one more time. It will not happen.
