From Basilicata to Lazio, the winning formula of AstraZeneca open days (or open nights)

by admin

Opening the doors to those who, tired of the pinwheel of restrictive measures applied for more than a year, hope to get vaccinated against the coronavirus as soon as possible, so as to be able to resume some of the habits that characterized the pre-pandemic routine. Achieving a double effect: more and more people immunized, and the use of doses of AstraZeneca (today “Vaxzevria”) that otherwise would risk remaining in the refrigerators of some regions. In a nutshell, this is the “winning” formula of the open days (or open nights, depending on the time of day in which the initiative is promoted) put in place by a group of administrations (Basilicata, Campania, Abruzzo, Sicily and Lazio). Open day means days dedicated to administrations, even without reservations. Whoever arrives first gets vaccinated.

Open day over 40 AstraZeneca in Lazio, sold out in a few hours

The Lazio open day will start on the weekend. There will be 20 thousand doses that the region will make available for the over 40s (born after 1981). It’s already sold out. The councilor for health and social and health integration Alessio D’Amato, told of «sold out in Rome, Frosinone, Latina and Viterbo in less than three hours. The virtual ticket mode worked – he added – and there are few slots left at the Valmontone and Rieti outlet. The experience is to be repeated with a necessarily greater number of doses that we will request from the commissioner ”. In short, for D’Amato the initiative was “an extraordinary success”. Lazio and Lombardy have asked the Commissioner for Emergency Figliuolo to have the AstraZeneca doses that have remained unused in the other regions. “I’m talking about 60 thousand, 80 thousand or even 100 thousand doses more than in other territories they are unable to administer – explained D’Amato – We are ready”. A similar appeal came from the president of the Lombardy Region, Attilio Fontana. Piedmont and Veneto are also interested in those vaccines.

In Sicily only 61% of the available AstraZeneca doses were administered

In Sicily, according to the data processed by Lab24, out of over 473 thousand Vaxzevria doses available in the fridge, over 288,800 were administered, 61 percent. “We started the open day three weeks ago to give strength and impetus to the vaccination campaign and to that with AstraZeneca in particular, whose stock in the refrigerators has always been abundant – explained the president of the Nello Musumeci Region -. Towards AstraZeneca there has been and is an understandable but unjustified psychosis – he continued -, in the face of 5-6 deaths whose connection with the vaccine has however been excluded ». Thus, after the open days in mid-April, last week the vaccination centers welcomed those born between 1962 and 1971 with diseases, as well as those over 60 (even without reservations).

Basilicata forerunners in the Open days

Basilicata has led the way, so much so that nationally there has been talk of the “Basilicata model”. A first time with an Astrazeneca Open day on 12, 13 and 14 April, in Potenza and Matera. Doors open to Lucanians between 60 and 79 years old, without reservation, but in order of seniority. Then on 8 May an Astranight in Matera, from 10pm to 6am the following morning, reserved for the first 750 people, between 60 and 79 years old. Access by numbering.

Success in Abruzzo

At the end of April, the AstraZeneca Open days were sold out, promoted by the breaking latest news ASL and the Abruzzo Region. The initiative was aimed at people aged between 60 and 80, residing in the Adriatic capital and in the province. About 3,500 doses of the Anglo-Swedish vaccine have been made available. The campaign allowed some people, especially the younger ones, to anticipate the administration by up to 40 days compared to the standard schedule.
