Good deals on flowers. Market that moves towards the electric Peraga: “In the lockdown, home deliveries are fine”

The confinement in homes in recent months has changed the way we experience the home environment. Countless families have undertaken projects to beautify and transform spaces both inside and outside their homes.

It is an established statistic that commercial activities related in various ways to DIY (such as hardware stores, which have always remained open even during the lockdown period) have suffered less than others from the commercial crisis, indeed, often and willingly they have improved their budgets by exploiting the massive sale of useful materials for the classic “do it yourself”.

“The lockdown has sprouted the desire to create or even rethink vegetable gardens and gardens, planting flowers and vegetables even in pots on balconies and terraces”, says Gianni Peraga, owner of the Peraga Garden Center in Mercenasco: «The purchases for the garden have grown, but it is those for the gardens that have seen a surge. We are pioneers of bio gardening and we are focused on the sale of electric propulsion machines, which have a reduced environmental impact and require minimal maintenance. In May we will launch a new tractor model that has an autonomy of 12,000 square meters ».

Alessia Peraga, Gianni’s daughter and active in the family business, notes a strong point of the company: “During the lockdowns, online sales and home deliveries, through a network that covers Italy and the whole of Europe, they were fundamental. The yellow zone has now given the green light to the desire to make important purchases, often even on impulse ».

A Settimo Vittone Davide Prola, owner of Verde Bosco, works as a gardener and as a reseller of garden and olive growing equipment. «My work has not undergone any changes, as the majority of our clients belong to the public sector – he says – It is in the sales of the shop that the stoppage was felt in the months of closure. People have tended to save, not wanting to undertake, even in the first person, external work ».

Prola follows a precise direction: «I am oriented towards the green choice and for this reason I only sell battery-powered garden machines. One day I would like to offer a maintenance service also for petrol engines to take advantage of these contacts with the customer and encourage him to switch to the new technology ». The Millefoglie nursery plants and gardens ad Ivrea specializes in perennial herbaceous and grasses. Filippo Alossa, owner, highlights two aspects: «We have a clientele that also comes from far away and this penalized us during the lockdowns. We then started producing cut flowers that we delivered home and it was nice to see how they heartened those who received them ». Alossa continues: «It was an economically difficult year due to the absence of gardening exhibitions. We are planning courses in this matter and we would also like to offer our location for cultural activities ». One last thought: «The attention for plants and gardens is growing because the garden is a pleasure, a place to live. The key word for us is “relationship”, which implies a relationship aimed at understanding natural cycles and sharing one place with the next. The closures have consolidated the perception of green space as a wealth that instills physical and psychological well-being ». –
