“Di Bello is very rude, he and Valeri (now at VAR) have a history with us, there is a huge case history with Atalanta.” Those are very harsh words from Gian Piero Gasperini to Sport Mediaset, after his Atalanta’s victory away to Milan, in the quarter-finals of the Italian Cup. “Before the match he walked past me and didn’t even say hello to me – Gasperini continues -: he’s not obligated, but he’s rude. Having said that, I always make things right and I’ve never asked that a referee not come to referee Atalanta. At the end of each game I delete everything.”
Then Gasperini talks about his expulsion, for the request to go to the VAR regarding the episode of the penalty claimed for contact Reijnders-De Roon, in the first half: “the episode seems very obvious to me”. “VAR is an extraordinary means, but here between VAR, varisti, referees, pundits we no longer understand anything – says the Atalanta coach -, it’s a war, there is too much disparity in interventions and we no longer understand well It’s a big problem: there’s no certainty of interventions, even of episodes. However, I asked to go to the VAR.”
A joke about the Italian Cup: “we went to the final twice and if the matches fall into place you can go to the final and play for it. We will try again to win a trophy”.
