In their opinion, moving to a “written exchange of offers and answers” in this already “very advanced phase of the negotiations” would be “not expedient,” the railway board explained in a press release late in the afternoon.
“We are convinced,” the railway continued, “that we will only be able to reach an agreement through dialogue at the negotiating table.” In the event of a rejection by the GDL, the company suggested formal arbitration.

Bahn wants to go back to the negotiating table
The railway wants to “come to a collective bargaining agreement as soon as possible in the interests of our employees and our customers”. She therefore agrees to “discuss and submit offers and solutions directly at the negotiating table” in the course of a direct conversation, the railway added.
In the current collective bargaining round, the GDL has already called for strikes five times; the most recent 35-hour strike ended on Friday afternoon. Another round of negotiations failed last week.
What does the GDL fundamentally demand?

Working time reduction for all shift workers from 38 to 35 hours with full wage compensation gradually until 2028. Basic five-day week
Fee:
420 euros more pay per month (the first six months without a pay increase)
Collective agreements:
for all professional groups, duration of 24 months
So far, the GDL has also demanded:
Voluntary increase in working hours with corresponding salary adjustment, a tax-free inflation bonus of 3,000 euros, increase in the employer’s share of the company pension scheme, uniform remuneration and an increase of at least 324 euros for trainees, general increase in allowances by 25 percent

So far the railway has also offered:

GDL’s core requirement: 35-hour week
In these discussions, two moderators – Schleswig-Holstein’s Prime Minister Daniel Günther and the former Federal Interior Minister Thomas de Maizière (both CDU) – presented a proposal for possible further negotiations. The railway then asked the GDL to resume negotiations based on the moderator’s suggestion. However, the union rejected this and described the proposal as unacceptable. The core demand of the GDL is the gradual introduction of a 35-hour week with full wage compensation.
In view of the deadlock, the Union spoke out in favor of an exchange between the two negotiators.
