Genoa, university investigation: Ferrante, director of law, has resigned

Shortly before the interrogations in front of the investigating judge Claudio Siclari resigned from his position as Director of the Department of Law, Professor Riccardo Ferrante, one of the suspects of the prosecutor’s investigation into a series of alleged pressures and disturbances to pilot competitions for professorships and research grants in the Faculty of Law. Ferrante is currently out of Italy for work.

All the teachers heard, five this morning given the absence of Ferrante, did not answer the questions and filed defensive briefs.

Only Daniele Granara, professor and administrative lawyer, answered some questions.

Ferrante’s interrogation was set for May 17th. The investigating judge will decide for everyone together.

Lara Trucco and Pasquale Costanzo – house arrest have been requested for them – will not be questioned but in case they will be heard after the eventual ordinance which, of course, is by no means taken for granted.

A few days ago, immediately after the searches by the financial police, Lara Trucco pro-rector and one of the main suspects of the investigation had already resigned together with professor emeritus Pasquale Costanzo, a constitutionalist like Trucco.

The searches had started a few days ago with the notification of the interrogations to a group of teachers. The investigating judge must hear them before deciding to apply the prohibitions to teaching requested by the prosecutor Francesco Cardona Albini.

Ferrante is under investigation for the affair involving Trucco, Costanzo, and Daniele Granara. The lawyer Granara, who has represented in dozens of appeals movements and environmental associations from all over Liguria, recently dealt with the novax cases by presenting the appeal to the TAR of over 400 health professionals against the obligation to vaccinate. According to investigators, Granara, who was a permanent researcher at the University, would have obtained the position of second-rate professor thanks to various stratagems implemented together with fellow ‘friends’ Trucco, Ferrante and Costanzo. These include the advance knowledge of the members of the competition commission and the postponement of the announcement itself to allow the lawyer to obtain a qualification that he did not yet have and which was essential for the competition.

Genoa, disputed chair for 5 years: four sentences against Prof. Arato, the University does not give up, and loses

There are six episodes disputed to the twelve suspects. And it seems to retrace a long series of news articles relating to university events throughout Italy.

After all, the theme is always the same: the very thin border that separates the choice of the best – professors, postdocs, researchers – from the abuse of power. There is a line of thought in the academic field, perhaps not explicitly stated publicly, which considers bids and selections bureaucratic obstacles that prevent the choice of the best. Although it may appear as a baronial vision, it is a very widespread concept and on other occasions it has generated short circuits with inevitable judicial drifts. It will be necessary to see if in the latter case the actions of the professors have crossed the boundaries that precisely in that faculty are taught to students, or if, on the other hand, today’s disputes are destined to be dismantled with coherent explanations.
