Germany: next Sunday we vote, tonight the last TV duel

(ANSA) – BERLIN, 19 SEPTEMBER – Next Sunday the Germans will vote in the federal elections, which will open the post Merkel era, and this Sunday could still be decisive, to move votes: the third and last ‘Triell’ is expected tonight, the televised debate between the three candidates in the running, the Social Democratic Vice-Chancellor Olaf Scholz, the leader of the CDU Armin Laschet and the co-president of the Greens Annalena Baerbock.

During the day, in two party congresses of the Greens and the Liberals, new impulses will arrive for the electoral campaign, which has seen Finance Minister Scholz in a clear advantage for weeks.

According to the Insa survey published by Bild am Sonntag, the SPD is still in the lead with 25% of the preferences, the Union (CDU-Csu) has recovered one point and collects 21%, the Greens are still at 15%, the Liberali at 12%, Afd’s ultra-right at 11% and Linke at 6%. Christian Lindner tells the tabloid that he believes he still has a chance to overtake the ecologists: “If we were equal – he says – we would have more strength in the negotiations for the future coalition”.
