A new meeting with the organizers of RCS Sport is scheduled in Aosta to evaluate whether to include the Valley in the path of the next edition of the cycling race
The Giro d’Italia could return to Valle d’Aosta in 2022. The regional councilor for sport spoke about it, responding to a question from the Lega in the Valle Council.
«There have already been numerous meetings with the organizers of the event, RCS Sport, both in person and remotely. The next one is scheduled in Aosta next week with the aim of realizing the possibility of bringing the competition back to our region in 2022 », explained the commissioner.
The official status of the route of the next Giro d’Italia, said the representative of the Aosta Valley government, will arrive with the public presentation of the sporting event in November. However, the possibility that the Valle d’Aosta will return to host the “pink” race is «still completely open. As assured by the organizers themselves, to date there are still no confirmations on the next Giro and interest has been expressed to involve our region as well. But any anticipation would be inappropriate, because, in addition to violating the ties of confidentiality, it would risk putting into question relations with the organizers ».
The regional administration is in any case ready to organize “initiatives and collateral events to maximize the possible promotional repercussions” of the passage of the race, even knowing that “the television coverage does not depend on RCS Sport but on Rai, which decides on the spot whether to accept the suggestions points of interest to be included in the shoot ».
In parallel, the councilor for sport announced that “we are undertaking relations” to host the Tour de France as well.
In his reply, Lega councilor Dennis Brunod said he was perplexed: «I didn’t ask for details, but I hoped to be sure about the assignment of a stage in 2022, because we knew that the agreements must be closed soon. I am delighted with the attention that is being paid to the Giro and also to the Tour de France, but I urge you to work even more: the Region could also have a say in the development of the territory. In 2022 the Gran Paradiso National Park turns 100: it would be nice to give him such an important gift. “
