Hacker attack on the Sardinia Region, thousands of files end up on the dark web

New cyber attack against the Sardinia Region. On the institutional site, the administration itself refers to the “publication on the dark web of folders containing personal data of its employees and users of some general management”. The Region announces that it has been aware of it since June 17 and that “the unlawfully disclosed documentation could have consequences for the rights of the interested parties involved such as, for example, the usurpation of identity, the loss of control by the interested parties over the personal data concerning them” . Also involved are local authorities and civil protection.

“The dark web – the Sardinia Region communicates to interested parties – is a network that offers content through a hidden address that does not allow the owner of the site to be easily identified, accessible only using a specific tool, the Tor browser, designed to ensure anonymity on computer networks’.

Personal, health and financial data made public

Subject of disclosure are personal data (identity documents, curriculum vitae, mobile phone numbers), health data, information on one’s balance sheet and financial position. Among the stolen data there would also be Green pass. Altogether this is thousands of files equal to 155 gigabytes. On the dark web, we read on the Repubblica website, reports of verifications and inspections relating to building abuses with thousands of attached photos, tax bills, information on the maritime state property would also have ended.

For its part, to mitigate the consequences of illegitimate disclosure, the Region advises employees and users involved to pay particular attention to e-mail and instant messages (WhatsApp) which can become a vehicle for phishing for fraudulent purposes, and then to update all your passwords.
