ASUNCION (SPECIAL ENVY) A 30-year-old man was detained at an ATM located in the basement of the Plaza de la Democracia, in Asunción, with 66 debit cards from the National Development Bank (BNF).
Around 10:30 p.m. on Thursday, agents from the 3rd Police Station were alerted about a man who had been in front of an ATM, located in the basement of the Plaza de la Democracia, in Asunción, for more than an hour, making several transactions.
Alerted by the situation, they quickly arrived at the site and detained Paulo Antonio Barboza Molinas, 30, who had 66 debit cards from the National Development Bank (BNF) in his possession.
Also, police officers seized several extracts of the transactions he made and a total of G. 12 million. All the cards had their pin on the back and names of different people.
“The young man became incoherent and was taken to the police station,” Commissioner José Martínez, head of the 3rd Police Station, explained to Radio Monumental 1080 AM.
The detainee told the interveners that they have a family business in the Chaco area.
Apparently, the cards belong to members of an indigenous community and he was doing them the favor of withdrawing the money.
“According to him, he is a doctor and has a business in the Paraguayan Chaco, but that is already in charge of the Public Ministry,” emphasized the police chief.
Now, the man is at the disposal of the Prosecutor’s Office, his arrest was ordered and this Friday he will give a statement.
