A 23-year-old Neapolitan was arrested by the police for having defrauded a 73-year-old lady who lives in the northern area of Trento using the “false lawyer or carabiniere” trick and stealing 9,500 euros in cash. Her 23-year-old phoned the woman’s house before her, pretending to be a policeman and telling her that her son had run over a boy in the Villazzano area and that the money was needed to avoid having his license withdrawn and criminal consequences. Then the scammer showed up at the old woman’s house to collect the money, this time introducing himself as a lawyer. The woman found out everything about her when she called her son, who had not had any accident. At that point the elderly woman called the police, who, thanks to the cameras installed in the area of the city where she lives, identified the woman allegedly responsible for her.
The man tried to escape but thanks to investigations by the Trento Police Headquarters, the railway police stopped him at the Napoli Centrale station in possession of all the money stolen from the woman in the morning, except the money he needed to pay the expenses of voyage. The 23-year-old also had jewels with him for which investigations are underway, almost certainly obtained through scams similar to the one against the 73-year-old. The invitation to anyone who has recently been the victim of a scam in similar ways is therefore to contact the Trento Police Headquarters.
