Healthcare, artificial intelligence enters Belluno hospitals

Two systems have been acquired for the identification and characterization of colon lesions for the Gastroenterologies of San Martino and Santa Maria del Prato

BELLUNO. Ulss Dolomiti hospitals are equipped with cutting-edge technologies: artificial intelligence. Two artificial intelligence systems were acquired for the identification and characterization of colon lesions for the Gastroenterologies of Belluno and Feltre. This technology makes it possible to significantly increase the ability to diagnose even small polypoid lesions and neoplastic lesions, which are not always visible with the classic examination.

Artificial intelligence, in fact, has a higher capacity than the human eye to quickly recognize and process images, amplifying very small signals that could otherwise escape, and to identify any lesions during endoscopic examinations such as colonoscopy. At the heart of the system is an algorithm that helps doctors detect suspicious colon cancer lesions in real time during a colonoscopy, the primary test for colon cancer prevention and diagnosis. According to the latest available studies, artificial intelligence, in fact, allows the identification of lesions in higher percentages than the human eye.

The acquired technology also allows the characterization of the type of lesion, through a sophisticated and innovative software. This brings an undoubted advantage on the prevention of colon cancer and better prospects for treatment because it allows both a diagnosis in the very early stages of the disease and an accurate identification of the type of lesion, giving important information for the personalization of the subsequent treatment path.

“Artificial Intelligence places our Gastroenterologies at the top of the range, not only from the clinical point of view but also from the diagnostic point of view, at the service of patients who choose our facilities”, explains the general manager Maria Grazia Carraro, “the company continues to invest and innovate to improve more and more the opportunities for treatment for patients and to give this recognition to the professionals who work there and to attract new professionals ».
