Around 1,400 children currently attend a kindergarten in Leonding, and 31 families use the kindergarten transport offered by the city. The service is now about to end: At yesterday’s local council meeting it was decided that from the 2024/2025 kindergarten year – i.e. from next autumn – no new children can be registered. The service will continue to be offered to those children who are already registered, so there will be a gradual end.

The city of Leonding justified the decision on Thursday primarily with the low demand and the high costs. The costs for the transport are more than 64,000 euros, through subsidies from the state and parental contributions, around 27,000 euros in income are generated. This means a loss of almost 37,000 euros, exactly 1,189.84 euros per child per year. Another reason is that finding staff to accompany people on the bus is becoming increasingly difficult; a Leonding taxi company takes over the transport.
Digi-AHS: Award of contract for temporary solution
The length of the route from the residential addresses to the respective kindergartens would be an average of only 3.3 kilometers, and the Leonding kindergartens are very well connected to the public transport network, it goes on to say.
Another topic in yesterday’s local council was the new Digi-AHS on the Harter Plateau, which will start school in containers in the fall. The mandataries gave the green light for the award of the contract for the mobile solution, installation as well as implementation planning and local construction supervision. The construction negotiations will take place in mid-April.
