Young people and adults from the municipalities of Santa Tecla and Nuevo Cuscatlán, in La Libertad, participate in the traditional making of carpets, which are prepared for the passing of the Santo Entierro procession this Good Friday.

Wilfredo Muñoz, from the 2024 class of Santa Cecilia School, explains the carpet made by 60 young people from that educational institution in Santa Tecla.

«As a 2024 promotion we made a salt carpet five meters wide and 17 meters long. We have been 60 young people who have been working all morning on Friday. The carpet wants to represent the 2024 bonus that we have as Salesians, which is the “dream that makes you dream,” a phrase from Saint John Bosco. The carpet has Mary Help of Christians, the lambs and Jesus supporting John Bosco,” Muñoz stated.

Likewise, the Santa Tecla Scout group joined in making carpets. Karla Hernández from the Santa Tecla Scout Group II presents her rug made in an ecological way with coffee husks dyed with mineral paint and inspired by the message of Pope Francis: “Through the desert God guides us to freedom.”

«Our rug is made 100% ecological, with coffee husks dyed with mineral paint. We make different color mixtures to give the carpet the shades. The message of the carpet refers to the Pope’s message about the exodus that “Through the desert God guides us towards freedom,” said Hernández.

He explained that approximately 20 Scouts along with their families participated in the design of the carpet.
