Human remains found in freezer of recently sold home in western Colorado
In a chilling discovery, people cleaning out the freezer of a recently sold home in Grand Junction, Colorado found a human head and hands. The Mesa County Sheriff’s office made the announcement in a news release on January 12th, initially labeling the discovery as “possible human remains.” An autopsy conducted by the coroner’s office later confirmed that the remains were indeed human.
The sheriff’s office emphasized the need for more testing to be completed before definitive answers can be provided. These tests are expected to take a significant amount of time and the public has been urged to remain patient.
In a statement released on Thursday, the Mesa County Sheriff’s Office assured the community that a thorough and detailed investigation is their top priority. The office expressed hope in positively identifying the victim while also respecting the victim and the victim’s family.
The cause of death and the sex of the victim have not yet been confirmed by the sheriff’s office.

The remains were found in a home in Grand Junction, located about 200 miles west of Denver. The sheriff’s office confirmed to CNN in an email that the remains were discovered in a freezer at the home.
Local resident Sam Troester, who lives across the street from the home where the remains were found, expressed shock and sorrow. “I feel really bad,” he told CNN affiliate KUSA. “I would hate to have to be the family missing that loved one right now. It would be heartbreaking.”
