The congressman also stated that El Salvador has become a prosperous country and that the economy is in a favorable moment. “For decades, El Salvador was governed not by its own government but by two sadistic criminal gangs: the Mara Salvatrucha MS13 and Barrio 18. This combination gave rise to a weak economy, where opportunities and growth were limited,” he claimed.
He also recommended that the Biden government should extend ties with El Salvador in order to “increase prosperity and security in our nations and in our region,” he insisted.
Likewise, Rubio shared an opinion column where he recalled that in March 2023 he made his first official visit to El Salvador, where he met with Bukele, and was able to verify the efforts to improve security in the country. He added that a year later, the country has achieved the unthinkable: “gang rule has been replaced by law and order.”
